Brazilian aircraft maker Embraer expects to eventually bring its E2 family jets to China, positioning them as a complement to Chinese indigenous aircraft, company officials said in June 2026 [1, 2]. Embraer Commercial Aviation CEO Arjan Meijer said a dedicated team based in Beijing is working daily to promote E2 jets in the Chinese market.

The E190-E2 and E195-E2 models are designed to fit between China’s smaller Comac C909 and larger C919 aircraft, offering airlines more flexible city-to-city connections, Meijer said. The jets have gained certification from Chinese local aviation authorities, a key regulatory step toward market entry [1, 2].

Despite ongoing discussions with potential customers, Embraer has yet to secure sales or establish a significant presence in China. The company has faced challenges since closing its executive jet joint venture in Harbin in 2016, which slowed its developments in the region [1, 2].

In 2023, Embraer began cargo-to-passenger aircraft conversion services in Lanzhou, China, marking a foothold in the country’s aviation services sector [2]. However, Meijer acknowledged that China itself faces challenges delaying broader adoption of E2 jets. He said, "China faces its own challenges, so we are still in talks. We believe we can find opportunities to bring E2 jets into the China market, but it takes time and we have not reached that stage yet" [2]. He also added, "We believe the E2 family is the ideal complement to the indigenous products of China" [1].

Meijer made these comments during a June 7 event in Rio de Janeiro, addressing Embraer’s efforts to enter China’s market with the E2 family [1, 2]. The company continues building relationships and navigating regulatory and commercial hurdles in China.
