Nio reported deliveries of 37,705 vehicles in May 2026, a 62.3% rise compared to May 2025 [1, 2, 3, 4]. The company’s total cumulative deliveries reached 1,148,118 units by the end of May 2026 [1, 2, 4]. From January to May 2026, Nio delivered 150,526 new vehicles, an increase of 68.7% year on year [1, 2, 4].
In the breakdown by brand for May, Nio delivered 20,013 Nio-branded vehicles, 12,029 Onvo vehicles, and 5,663 Firefly vehicles [1, 4]. Nio launched the Onvo L80 SUV on May 15, with deliveries starting the following day on May 16 [1, 4]. Later in the month, Nio introduced the ES9 flagship executive SUV on May 27, with deliveries beginning May 28 [1, 4].
The ES8 model maintained its position as the best-selling vehicle priced above 400,000 yuan for five consecutive months through May 2026 [4]. Despite strong delivery figures, Nio shares closed down 3.55% at US$5.44 on May 29 on the Singapore Exchange [1].
Other Chinese automakers posted mixed results in May. Xpeng delivered 32,158 vehicles, up 4% from April but down 4% year on year [5, 3]. Li Auto’s deliveries declined 18.4% to 33,350 vehicles [3]. Geely’s total vehicle sales were 237,637 units, a slight increase of about 1% year on year [6].
BYD sold 383,453 vehicles in May 2026, though its cumulative sales fell 20.32% year on year [7]. Seres delivered 36,480 vehicles in May, down 17.38% year on year but with cumulative sales up 8.18% [8]. Chery reported sales of 231,944 vehicles, a 20.7% year-on-year increase that included 177,666 exports and 89,340 new energy vehicles (NEVs) [9].
Changan delivered 209,100 vehicles in May, including 70,700 overseas vehicles (up 38%) and 92,400 NEVs (up 5.8%) [10]. Jiangling sold 32,300 vehicles, a 5.98% rise year on year [11].
Nio’s next major reporting event is expected with the release of June 2026 delivery figures in early July.
