Top US tech companies are expected to invest about $1.1 trillion in AI infrastructure by 2027, equal to roughly 3.2% of US GDP [5].

The AI data center boom is creating business opportunities for industrial and electrical equipment manufacturers, but also placing strain on the power grid [5, 4]. Some communities have raised environmental concerns over water and electricity use and pollution from diesel generators in data centers [5]. US Energy Secretary Chris Wright stated, "Many people do not understand the scale of data centers, and multiple studies show up to 70% of Americans oppose building AI data centers near where they live. However, data centers help lower electricity prices," emphasizing their economic role [5].

Investor Kevin O’Leary said the US needs to sustain leadership in technology and economy, noting data centers are key to that advantage [5].
