Anthropic PBC has signed a $10 billion contract for computing capacity with infrastructure startup Volta Infra Holdings Ltd, to be delivered over six years [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. The deal will use a 133-megawatt data center in Norway operated by Volta in partnership with Bitdeer Technologies, a Bitcoin mining company that is converting some of its sites to support AI workloads [1, 2, 3, 4].
The Norwegian facility will deploy Nvidia's latest Vera Rubin AI chips, enhancing AI compute power available to Anthropic [1, 2, 3]. Volta, founded in January 2026 by former Brookfield Asset Management executives, raised $300 million in venture funding at a $2.4 billion valuation earlier this year [1, 2]. The company is also part of Nvidia’s Cloud Partner program, which supports AI cloud providers using Nvidia GPUs [3].
On August 4, Volta announced the $10 billion deal involving the Norway data center and collaboration with Bitdeer, though the customer at the time was unnamed [1, 2, 3]. Bitdeer had previously outlined plans on July 21 to convert crypto mining sites in Texas, Tennessee, and Washington to AI data center use [1, 2].
Anthropic has secured multiple recent computing agreements, including with SpaceX, Advanced Micro Devices, and Akamai Technologies. It is also in talks with Meta Platforms for additional capacity [1, 2]. Earlier in 2026, Anthropic raised $65 billion in a funding round aimed at financing AI development costs [1, 2].
