Meta's platforms Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, and Threads were hit by a global outage on June 12, affecting millions in countries such as the US, UK, Singapore, UAE, India, Australia, and Canada [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12]. Users reported problems including login failures, sudden logouts, feed refresh issues, blank or frozen pages, error messages like "Sorry, something went wrong," inability to send messages, and trouble loading stories, comments, and photos [1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12].

The outage began between 9:00 and 9:30 p.m. Singapore time, peaking around 9:50–10:10 p.m. SGT, and lasted for several hours into the night [2, 4, 7, 9, 10]. Downdetector tracked over 62,000 Facebook-related reports and more than 8,000 Instagram reports by 10:11 a.m. US Eastern Time (10:11 p.m. SGT), with other sources noting over 100,000 reports globally during peak times [1, 2, 3, 7]. At the peak in Singapore, there were 1,381 Facebook reports and 446 Instagram reports appearing on Downdetector [2]. During the peak in the UAE, Facebook reports exceeded 113,000 and Instagram over 9,500 [7].

Meta spokesperson Andy Stone acknowledged the outage on X (formerly Twitter), stating, "We're aware people are currently having trouble accessing our services. We're working on it." He repeated the message in Chinese: "我們已注意到用戶目前在訪問我們的服務時遇到麻煩。我們正在全力解決這一問題。" [1, 2, 3, 6]. Meta did not provide further details or a cause for the disruption as of reporting time [1, 3, 6, 7].

Users reported being abruptly logged out and unable to log back in, with password reset attempts failing or returning errors [4, 7, 12]. The severity varied among Meta services, with Facebook reportedly hardest hit [4, 6, 7]. Downdetector itself suffered issues during the outage, showing error 404 pages due to the scale of the disruptions [10].

User reports first rose in Singapore around 9:09 p.m. SGT according to Downdetector [2]. Global reports intensified by 9:30 p.m. SGT involving Facebook, Instagram, and other Meta services [4]. Andy Stone publicly confirmed the outage and Meta’s efforts to fix it by 10:11 p.m. SGT [2, 3, 6].
