Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim issued a letter of demand to PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man on July 30, 2026, over allegedly defamatory statements made on June 14 [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]. The remarks were reportedly made both outside Parliament and later at a political ceramah in Felda Jenderak Utara, Kuala Krau, Pahang [1, 2, 3, 5, 6].
The statements allegedly accused Anwar of losing control, interfering in the affairs of the states of Negeri Sembilan and Johor, acting excessively, and being involved in corruption, abuse of power, and misconduct [2, 3, 6]. After the initial comments, the allegedly defamatory remarks were republished on social media platforms such as Facebook and YouTube on June 15 [5, 6].
The letter demands that Tuan Ibrahim immediately withdraw the allegations and issue an unconditional public apology. It also requires him to provide a written undertaking not to repeat the accusations and to pay damages and legal costs. Anwar's lawyer, Datuk Sankara Nair, said, "The letter of demand requires Tuan Ibrahim to immediately withdraw the statements in question and issue an unconditional public apology. It also requires him to provide a written undertaking not to repeat the allegations, as well as to pay damages and legal costs. Tuan Ibrahim has been given 48 hours to respond, failing which our instructions are to commence legal proceedings without further notice" [1].
Tuan Ibrahim responded that he had not yet received the letter but plans to seek legal advice when it is served. He maintained that his remarks were based on several media reports and said, "Whatever it is, I will refer the matter to my lawyers" [6].
Prime Minister Anwar denied the allegations, stating that he "has never instructed police to investigate individuals for criticising the government and has never interfered in the affairs of the Negeri Sembilan royal institution" [6].
Tuan Ibrahim has been given 48 hours from July 30 to reply to the letter, after which legal action will proceed without further notice if he does not respond [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6].
