Construction of the Mutiara Line Light Rail Transit (LRT) stations is advancing steadily in Penang, with station designs pending approval from the Penang Island City Council [1, 2]. Work is underway on pier and viaduct structures at the Penang International Airport (LTAPP) Station, where five piers have been completed so far [1, 2].

At Bandar Sri Pinang Station, foundation work and station columns are complete, signaling the project's move into its main construction phase soon [1, 2]. Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said, "Crosshead components are expected to arrive on site soon. These are large concrete structures installed on top of columns and serve as the main support for the station" [2].

Bandar Sri Pinang Station is situated in a densely developed coastal urban area near Persiaran Karpal Singh, a key commercial and lifestyle hub [1, 2]. The LTAPP Station will connect to the airport’s new terminal with a pedestrian bridge, serving as an important international gateway to Penang [1, 2]. It will provide direct links to destinations including the Bayan Lepas Free Industrial Zone, Komtar, and Penang Sentral in Butterworth [1, 2].

Pier construction is ongoing at 14 locations along the 23.7-kilometer Mutiara Line alignment, including Permatang Damar Laut, Gelugor, the SPICE Convention Centre area, East Jelutong, Macallum, and near Cecil Residensi [1, 2]. Traffic management plans have been in effect since early May at the Jalan Tengah-Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah junction to cope with construction-related disruptions [1, 2]. Two additional traffic management plans are scheduled for implementation in the second half of 2026.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said, "We expect construction activity to intensify. The implementation of traffic management plans (TMPs) in the Bayan Lepas FIZ and phased lane closures along the 23.7km alignment from Komtar to Pulau Silikon are clear signs that the project has entered its active construction phase" [2]. He added, "As such, the public should be prepared for some traffic inconvenience as the project enters a more active construction phase in the second half of the year" [2].

The project began construction in 2025 and has moved into a more active phase as major civil works continue across the route [2]. Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow visited the LTAPP and Bandar Sri Pinang construction sites on June 6 to assess progress and provide updates [1, 2].
