The Federal Court fixed June 26, 2026, to hear former Felda chairman Tan Sri Mohd Isa Abdul Samad’s application seeking leave to review a decision that reinstated his corruption conviction, six-year prison sentence, and RM15.45 million fine [1, 2, 3].
Mohd Isa, 76, is currently serving a six-year jail term after the Federal Court on February 10, 2026, allowed the prosecution’s appeal. That ruling overturned his earlier acquittal and reinstated his conviction, sentencing, and fine [1, 2, 3].
His case began on February 3, 2021, when the High Court found Mohd Isa guilty on corruption charges. He was sentenced to six years’ imprisonment and fined RM15.45 million, with an additional two years’ jail if the fine was unpaid [1, 2, 3].
The charges involved alleged bribes totaling RM3.09 million. Prosecutors said Mohd Isa received the bribes from Ikhwan Zaidel through his special officer in return for approving Felda Investment Corporation Sdn Bhd’s RM160 million purchase of Merdeka Palace Hotel & Suites in Kuching, Sarawak [1, 2, 3].
Mohd Isa was acquitted by the Court of Appeal on March 6, 2024, which cleared him of all nine charges related to the RM3 million bribery claims [1, 2, 3].
However, the Federal Court allowed the prosecution’s appeal on February 10, 2026, reinstating his conviction, jail sentence, and fine [1, 2, 3].
Mohd Isa’s lawyers subsequently sought to review the Federal Court’s February rulings. They requested access to recordings and transcripts of the February 5 and 10 Federal Court proceedings to check whether the panel had invited defence submissions on the merits and mitigation after his conviction [1, 2, 3].
The review application was filed under Rule 137 of the Federal Court Rules 1995, citing a breach of natural justice [1, 2, 3].
On May 13, 2026, the Federal Court adjourned a hearing to give Mohd Isa’s defense time to inspect the court records before the next scheduled hearing [1, 2, 3].
The June 26 hearing will determine whether the Federal Court grants Mohd Isa leave to review the reinstatement of his conviction and sentence [1, 2, 3].
