An 11-vehicle crash occurred between 10:44pm and 10:55pm on August 31, 2026, at KM110 to KM110.4 of the eastbound East Coast Expressway near Lanchang, Temerloh, Pahang [1, 2, 3]. Four people were killed, including a married couple Muhammad Nazatul Nazmi (32) and Nur Atiqah Sofiya Mohd Kazwan (age reported as 31 or 32), their 4-year-old son Muhammad Armaan Nazeef, and Seow Beng Wain, 55, a passenger in another vehicle [1, 2, 4, 3]. The family of three were traveling in a Proton S70, while Seow was a passenger in a Honda CR-V [1, 4, 3].
Police and rescue officials said the crash was caused when a cement tanker lost control and struck slow-moving vehicles [1, 3]. The tanker driver and the 18-year-old CR-V driver sustained serious injuries and were taken to Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital in Temerloh [1]. Eight other vehicles were involved, including an express bus carrying 30 passengers; all bus passengers escaped unharmed, while drivers and passengers of other vehicles suffered minor injuries [1, 2, 3].
The wreck caused about 7.2 km of congestion on the expressway eastbound between KM109.2 and KM116.4 near Temerloh [3]. Post-mortem examinations of the deceased were conducted the morning after the crash at Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Hospital [1]. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 [1].
The deceased family had been returning from a National Day celebration in Putrajaya and had shared photos from the event shortly before the crash. Nur Awatif Adawiyah Abdul Aziz said, "They took several photos together as a family. We never thought these photos would become their last memories." [4]. Mohd Kazwan Mohd Kassim expressed his shock: "I saw the news and a post on Facebook about the accident. I said to myself, I hope it is not my daughter because the S70 looked like her car, but I never expected to receive a call confirming that it was indeed my daughter." [4]
Fire and rescue operations were completed by around 2:50am on September 1, after extrications and medical treatment of the injured [3].
