The High Court today granted Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor a conditional stay on the RM67.46 million judgment in favor of Lebanese jeweller Global Royalty Trading SAL, pending her appeal at the Court of Appeal [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7]. Rosmah is required to deposit the full judgment sum of RM67,461,027.37 into a joint stakeholder account held by lawyers for both parties within 30 days of the order [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7].
The judgment originated from a June 10 High Court decision that found Rosmah liable for 43 missing pieces of jewellery consigned to her by Global Royalty in 2018, out of a total 44 pieces supplied on a consignment basis [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7]. The jewellery was valued at approximately US$14.57 million (around RM68.3 million), and only one piece was recovered following a police raid [1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7].
Rosmah argued the jewellery had been seized by authorities and that if lost, the police or Malaysian government should bear responsibility [1, 4, 6, 7]. Judicial Commissioner Marianne Antoinette Ghani said the conditional stay balances the rights of both parties by securing the judgment sum locally and protecting Rosmah’s right to appeal. She said, "The arrangement will avoid prejudice to Global Royalty if the appeal is dismissed, while ensuring Rosmah's appeal will not be rendered nugatory if it is allowed" [1, 4].
Global Royalty’s lawyer Datuk David Gurupatham warned that if Rosmah fails to deposit the money within 30 days, they may proceed with enforcement actions, including against Rosmah's declared assets valued at about RM666.7 million [5, 7]. He added, "In practical terms, therefore, our client is protected in either event, the full judgment sum is either secured within 30 days, or our client is entitled to proceed with enforcement" [5].
The case traces back to 2018 when Global Royalty supplied 44 pieces of luxury jewellery to Rosmah Mansor on consignment for viewing [1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7]. The High Court ordered Rosmah to pay RM67.5 million on June 10, 2026, and she was previously denied an interim stay on July 20, 2026 [1].
Rosmah’s deadline to deposit the judgment sum into the joint stakeholder account is 30 days from today’s order, effectively by September 11, 2026 [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7].
