The High Court allowed Asnida Abdul Daim, 65, daughter of the late former Finance Minister Tun Daim Zainuddin, to keep her international passport permanently on June 10, 2026. [1, 2, 3, 4] Judge Nurulhuda Nur'Aini Mohamad Nor ruled there was no merit in holding the passport and no justification for its continued impoundment. She ordered the passport be returned within seven days of the ruling. [1, 2, 3, 4] "There is no merit in holding the passport. Non-attendance has not been proven as a flight risk," the judge said. [1]

The Deputy Public Prosecutor, Nidzuwan Abd Latip, opposed the return, citing Asnida's failure to attend a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) statement recording and her frequent overseas business travels. "The applicant frequently travels abroad and has business interests there, so there is a potential flight risk," he said. "We ask the court to consider this case carefully, as it involves one of the children of the late Tun Daim and is a matter of public interest." [1, 3, 4]

Asnida's lawyer, Rajesh Nagarajan, countered that frequent business travel did not constitute a flight risk. "The fact that the applicant travels abroad is not evidence of a flight risk or an intention to abscond," he said. "For the prosecution's assertion to carry any weight, there must be a history of non-attendance or evasion of process. None exists and none has been presented to the court." [1, 2, 3, 4]

Asnida pleaded not guilty on April 7, 2026, to a charge of intentionally giving a false sworn written statement under Section 36(1)(b) of the MACC Act 2009. [1, 3, 4] The charge relates to her failure to declare shareholdings in five companies as required by a MACC notice dated November 8, 2023. [1, 3, 4] The alleged offence was committed on December 13, 2023, at MACC headquarters in Putrajaya. [1, 3, 4]

The offence carries a maximum sentence of five years imprisonment and a fine of up to RM100,000 upon conviction under Section 36(2) of the MACC Act. [1, 3, 4] Earlier bail was set at RM50,000 by the Sessions Court. [2]

The timeline of key events shows the MACC issued the declaration notice on November 8, 2023, which was formally served by a senior officer on November 14, 2023. The alleged false statement was made on December 13, 2023, and Asnida pleaded not guilty in court on April 7, 2026. [1, 3, 4]

Asnida will have her passport returned within seven days, by June 17, 2026, as ordered by the High Court. [1, 2, 3, 4]
