The Immigration Department detained 24 foreigners suspected of involvement in prostitution during "Op Gegar" at a four-storey shoplot near Kota Raya, Jalan Tun Siew Sin, Kuala Lumpur on May 20, 2026 [1, 2, 3, 4]. Those detained included 9 Indonesian women, 7 Bangladeshi women, 5 Bangladeshi men, and one man each from Nepal, Indonesia, and Myanmar [1, 2, 3, 4]. The syndicate offered sexual services at rates ranging from RM80 to RM120 per 15-minute session, operating day and night shifts. Immigration Director-General Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said, "The modus operandi used was offering direct sexual services to customers through the premise caretakers operating on the 3rd and 4th floors of the building, with rates ranging between RM80 and RM120 per 15-minute session" [1]. He added, "The premises were operating on a shift system... Strict internal controls were put in place to avoid detection by the authorities" [3].

The premises were guarded by a local man known as "Abang Long Kawasan" and internally managed by a foreigner called the "Captain" [1, 3, 4]. CCTV monitoring was installed to ensure the syndicate avoided detection [1, 2, 3, 4]. Items seized included notebooks, condoms, lubricants, and CCTV equipment [2, 3, 4].

All detained foreigners were taken to the Putrajaya Immigration Depot for further investigation under the Immigration Act 1959/63, facing charges including lacking valid documents, overstaying, and pass abuse [1, 2, 3, 4]. Two local men and three Bangladeshi men were issued witness summonses during the operation [3, 4].

Interior Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin emphasized the need for the Immigration Department to strengthen intelligence and strategic foresight to combat cross-border crime, including document forgery and exploitation of foreign workers, stating, "移民局必须强化情报与战略前瞻能力,以应对涉及伪造文件、人口走私、剥削外籍人士及滥用我国移民系统的跨境犯罪集团" [2]. He also said, "移民局必须始终走在威胁前端,包括建立时刻警惕全球变化的工作文化,迅速作出决策,并灵活调整行动模式,以符合当前现实情况" [2].
