Tunku Nadzaruddin's purported assumption of the title during the event has no legal effect, according to a statement issued on June 9 by Datuk Azizi Mohamad Ali, Comptroller of the Royal Household [1, 2, 3]. By attempting to accept the invalid title, Tunku Nadzaruddin has relinquished the hereditary title of Tunku Panglima Besar of Negeri Sembilan that he previously held, Datuk Azizi said. "By his own action," he added, the title has been forfeit [3].
As a consequence, there is currently no holder of the hereditary Tunku Panglima Besar title in Negeri Sembilan [1, 2, 3]. The official statement clarifies that the June 5 ceremony does not conform with the constitutional and customary requirements to install the Yang di-Pertuan Besar.
The state has yet to announce any successor or formal process to appoint the next legitimate ruler following the invalidation of the ceremony and the vacancy of the hereditary title.
