Caretaker Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi arrived early and cast his vote at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Simpang Renggam on July 11, 2026, during the 16th Johor state election [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. Polling opened at 8 a.m. and was set to run until 6 p.m. that day [2, 3, 4].
Onn Hafiz reached the polling centre between 8:05 a.m. and 8:06 a.m., according to different reports, and cast his vote between 8:33 a.m. and 8:35 a.m. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. He wore a white baju Melayu and songkok while greeting voters and election officials at the centre [1, 2, 3, 4, 5].
Onn Hafiz is defending the Machap state seat in a straight contest against Nur Hafiz Roslan of Pakatan Harapan (PH) [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. He also serves as Johor Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman and is the incumbent Machap assemblyman seeking a second term [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. In the 2022 election, he won Machap by a majority of 6,543 votes, garnering 11,029 votes in a four-cornered race [2, 3, 4]. Prior to Machap, he held the Layang-Layang seat from 2018 by a slim 364-vote margin [2, 3, 4].
Onn Hafiz described the polling day atmosphere as good and orderly with favourable weather. "Alhamdulillah, I can see that the atmosphere among Bangsa Johor voters today is good. The weather is also looking favourable. I would like to wish all Bangsa Johor voters a happy voting day," he said [4]. He urged Johoreans to vote early “to fulfil their democratic responsibility and help ensure the smooth conduct of the polling process” [1, 5].
Separately, PH candidate Dr Maszlee Malik cast his vote at 8:58 a.m. at SJK (C) Tuan Poon, Simpang Renggam [1, 5]. He is one of five candidates contesting the Puteri Wangsa seat against opponents from Muda, BN, Parti Bersama Malaysia, and an independent [1, 5].
