The Road Transport Department (JPJ) suspended its online vehicle ownership transfer service across all digital platforms on May 25, 2026, including its public portal, kiosks, and services via MyEG and eAuto Sdn Bhd, due to complaints about unauthorized vehicle ownership changes [1, 2, 3, 4, 5].

JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said the suspension was necessary as the department viewed the matter seriously, especially concerns about vehicle maintenance and safety records tied to fraudulent ownership transfers. He stated, "JPJ views the matter seriously, especially those involving maintenance and the safety record of vehicles registered in the department’s system" [1].

During the suspension, all vehicle ownership transfers for individuals and private companies had to be done in person at JPJ counters. Applications for individuals were processed the same day, while private company ownership transfers required 5 to 7 working days for approval after submitting complete documents [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. The Temporary Ownership Transfer System via eAuto remained operational, but the permanent transfer system (eSerahan Tukar Milik or eSTM) was suspended [1, 2, 4, 5].

The suspension followed complaints from official channels and social media about ownership changes made without the registered owners' knowledge [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. Minister of Transport Anthony Loke Siew Fook announced JPJ would immediately restore the online service to prevent public disruption. He said, "JPJ informed the ministry regarding abuse and fraud involving the ownership transfer system, which resulted in liabilities that had to be borne by the department. Therefore, JPJ needs to carry out improvements to the online system as soon as possible" and added, "I have advised JPJ to ensure system enhancement works do not disrupt the daily affairs of ordinary users or cause major congestion at JPJ offices" [6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11].

The restoration followed discussions between Minister Loke and JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli after media reports on the suspension [6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11]. Minister Loke also said any future suspensions to upgrade the online system will be scheduled during long weekend holidays to minimize inconvenience and reduce congestion at JPJ offices [6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11].

The next planned upgrade and potential suspension of the system is expected to occur during a long weekend holiday later in May 2026 [6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11].
