Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) announced it will operate 124 additional Electric Train Service (ETS) and Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) Plus services, offering a total of 38,944 new seats during the upcoming National Day and school holidays in Malaysia [1, 2, 3].

The expanded schedule includes 100 extra ETS services providing 31,600 seats from August 21 to 23, August 28 to 31, and September 4 to 6 [1, 2, 3]. Alongside this, 24 additional EMU Plus services with 7,344 seats will run on selected dates between August 21 and September 6. These EMU Plus services will extend to Bandar Tasik Selatan [1, 2, 3].

On the KTM Komuter northern sector, eight extra services will operate on the Padang Besar-Butterworth-Padang Besar route from August 27 to 31. This will increase the daily services on this route to 46 [1, 2, 3].

Tickets for these added services went on sale August 13 through official KTMB channels [1, 2, 3]. Earlier in the month, from August 10 to 14, KTMB held customer appreciation activities including vouchers, KFC meals, free travel tickets, and RM16 discounts to celebrate ETS's 16th anniversary [1, 2, 3].

Since launching on August 12, 2010, the ETS has carried 44.3 million passengers [1, 2, 3]. ETS initially began service on the Ipoh route, expanding to Butterworth and Padang Besar by 2015 and further southwards at the end of 2025. KTMB Group CEO Datuk Azlan Shah Al Bakri said, "Starting in 2010 with the route to Ipoh, the ETS service was expanded to Butterworth and Padang Besar in 2015 before further expanding southwards at the end of 2025" [1]. He added that the strong 16-year performance reflects "customers’ high confidence in the reliability of the country’s rail transport system" [3].

From January to July 2026, ETS ridership reached 3.67 million passengers, up 56% from 2.36 million in the same period last year [1, 2, 3].

The new services will operate in key holiday periods from August 21 through September 6, providing increased capacity for passengers traveling during National Day and school holidays [1, 2, 3].
