KTMB launched an extension of its Southern Shuttle service on August 8, covering the Paloh-JB Sentral-Paloh route and serving seven stations: Paloh, Kluang, Renggam, Layang-Layang, Kulai, Kempas Baru, and JB Sentral [1, 2, 3]. The full journey from Paloh to JB Sentral takes approximately two hours.
The service runs 10 daily trips—five in each direction—with each train able to carry up to 400 passengers [1, 2, 3]. The earliest train departs Paloh at 3:55 a.m., arriving at JB Sentral at 5:52 a.m. The last train leaves JB Sentral at 8:30 p.m. and arrives at Paloh at 10:27 p.m. [1, 2, 3]. KTMB said the early morning and evening schedules support daily commuters, including those traveling on to Singapore via the Johor Bahru border crossing [2].
Passengers can connect at Kempas Baru Station to the Kempas Baru–Pasir Gudang shuttle, improving access to the Pasir Gudang industrial area [1, 2, 3].
The extension uses part of the Gemas-Johor Bahru Electrified Double-Track Project alignment, reflecting the Malaysian government’s and KTMB’s efforts to enhance public mobility by expanding rail access in the central Johor corridor, according to KTMB [1].
The fare from Paloh to JB Sentral is temporarily reduced to a promotional RM7.70 one-way, down from RM15.30, until the delivery of new electric trains [1, 2, 3]. The MyRailLife Pass will also be extended to cover the Southern Shuttle until December 31, granting free travel to children aged 4 to 6, students from Year One to Form Six, and persons with disabilities under certain terms [1, 2, 3].
Since its initial launch, the Southern Shuttle service has carried 3,209 passengers on its first two routes [1, 2, 3].
KTMB first announced the extension on August 3, with full service starting August 8 [1, 3].
