Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd (KTMB) has announced it will provide 347,000 train seats for the long holiday period covering Hari Raya Aidiladha, Wesak Day, and the Official Birthday of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim. This capacity is the largest in the company’s history and more than double the 150,000 seats offered during the previous festive season, KTMB CEO Datuk Azlan Shah Al Bakri said today [1, 2, 3].
Around 80% of the over 900 train trips’ tickets, about 270,000 seats, have already been sold. Between 60,000 and 70,000 seats remain available, with ticket sales for the southern sector (Kuala Lumpur-Johor Bahru) reaching 88%, and 82% for the northern sector (Kuala Lumpur-Padang Besar) [1, 2, 3]. Tickets for the East Coast sector on the Ekspres Rakyat Timuran service are fully sold out [1, 2, 3].
Datuk Azlan Shah noted, "This time, we are facing an extended holiday period and are providing the highest number of tickets ever for Hari Raya Aidiladha, even exceeding ticket sales during the recent Hari Raya Aidilfitri" [1].
To support travellers, KTMB has introduced the Madani30 programme offering a 30% discount on tickets subject to terms and conditions. The Ekspres Lambaian Aidiladha (ELA) service’s superior seat category also offers a 30% discount. Datuk Azlan said, "For the Ekspres Lambaian Aidiladha (ELA) service, we are also offering a 30 per cent discount under the superior seat category to help ease the burden on the people and assist them in travelling to their destinations" [1, 3].
KTMB confirmed it has fully activated all technical and operational preparations, including train sets, tracks, signalling, and business continuity plans, to ensure passenger comfort and safety during this period. The company uses ticketless boarding through smartphone apps and an Open Payment System to prevent fake ticket issues [1, 2, 3].
Datuk Azlan Shah’s announcement comes as KTMB confirms operational readiness for the holiday period, scheduled to begin shortly [1, 3].
