Malaysia’s National Registration Department (NRD) said existing MyKad remain valid for all official use, including subsidy redemption and government aid, amid plans for a new MyKad rollout [1, 2, 3]. The issuance of the New Structure MyKad will begin only after its official launch by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, with the exact date yet to be announced [1, 2, 3].

Initial implementation of the New Structure MyKad will start at NRD headquarters in Putrajaya and 18 selected NRD offices on a phased basis. Applicants will need to make appointments via the NRD Appointment System before the rollout expands nationwide [1, 2, 3]. The NRD stated, "The NRD has set priority for the issuance of the New Structure MyKad to applicants who make appointments through the NRD Appointment System, as well as holders of Plastic Identity Cards (KPP), High Quality Identity Cards (KPT) and MyKad Version 1 (without ghost image)" [3].

Holders of KPP, KPT, and MyKad Version 1 cards are required to replace these with the New Structure MyKad within three years [1, 2, 3]. The NRD assured that personal data and holder information will be protected with enhanced security features and data protection controls integrated into the new cards [1, 2, 3].

Further information and FAQs about the New Structure MyKad implementation are available on the NRD’s official portal [1, 2, 3]. The phased rollout will begin once the Prime Minister announces the launch date, with appointment-based service available initially at Putrajaya and 18 NRD offices nationwide.
