The Malaysian government has approved over 5,000 applications to transfer subsidised diesel quotas to immediate family members under the Budi Madani Diesel programme, which began on July 1, 2026 [1, 2, 3].

The quota transfer facility was introduced after feedback showed many diesel vehicles are registered under a parent's name but used by children or other relatives. Tan Sri Johan Mahmood Merican explained, "In some families, a pick-up truck is registered under the father’s name, but it is actually used by the son. We have therefore introduced a facility on the same website that allows eligible applicants to transfer their quota, for example, from a father to a son or other immediate family member. To date, more than 5,000 applications have been approved" [3].

Eligible vehicle owners can apply to transfer their subsidised diesel quota online via the Budi Madani portal or at any Inland Revenue Board office [1, 2, 3]. As of July 4, more than 174,000 recipients in Peninsular Malaysia and over 22,000 recipients in Sabah, Sarawak, and Labuan had been approved for the programme [1, 3].

The Finance Ministry has also approved over 200,000 applications from owners of diesel-powered pick-up trucks and SUVs for an additional 100 litres of subsidised diesel per month. This enhancement raised the monthly diesel quota to 300 litres for approved owners starting July 2026 [1, 2, 3]. Merican noted the increased quota aims to support higher diesel consumption among traders and those in rural and remote areas, saying, "Owners of pick-up trucks and SUVs, especially traders and those travelling regularly from remote areas, are reminded to apply for the additional subsidy if they are eligible" [3].

There have been no reported issues using the fuel card for purchasing Budi Diesel or Budi RON95 petrol subsidies according to government sources [2].

The government is considering expanding Budi Diesel eligibility to diesel generators in longhouses and diesel boats in rural Sabah and Sarawak to further assist remote communities [1, 2, 3].
