The Malaysian government is studying various proposals from agencies, ministries and NGOs aimed at boosting business activity among micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) under Budget 2027. Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan announced this on August 28 during the Bank Simpanan Nasional's (BSN) 69th National Day celebration in Kuala Lumpur [1, 2, 3].
"MSMEs are one of the backbones of the national economy," Datuk Seri Amir said. "In terms of the government's priorities, we will pay greater attention to MSMEs in Budget 2027," he added [1].
Malaysia’s economy showed a strong performance in the second quarter of 2026, growing at 6.0%. The minister noted the government’s goal to ensure that the benefits of this growth reach all segments of society, especially MSMEs. "We want to ensure that the benefits of the country's GDP growth reach all parts of the country, including MSMEs," he said [2].
Budget 2027 will follow a framework focused on 10 key thrusts. These include addressing the cost of living, creating meaningful jobs, and stimulating the economy to generate more opportunities for Malaysians [1, 2, 3]. Datuk Seri Amir confirmed, "We have received many proposals and what is important now is to assess all of them based on what the government can implement," reflecting a careful review process before finalizing budget measures [3].
The BSN celebration also featured the 'Cerita Mereka, Jiwa Malaysia' campaign and the BSN Mikro Madani Carnival, highlighting the stories and contributions of micro-entrepreneurs within the local economy [1, 3].
