Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to be discharged from hospital today, August 12, 2026, after receiving treatment for a para-umbilical hernia [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6].
Anwar underwent an elective laparoscopic surgical procedure on Monday, August 10, to treat the hernia [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]. Since the operation, he has been under the care of a team of medical specialists and has responded well to treatment, with his health reportedly improving [6].
Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, speaking to reporters after attending the Semarak Merdeka programme in Kuala Lumpur today, said the prime minister "sends his regards and thanked everyone who has prayed for his health and recovery" [1]. She added, "I want to convey PMX's greetings because he has undergone (treatment), Alhamdulillah, successfully. Thank you to everyone who prayed for his good health." She further said, "God willing, I want to go after I make a brief visit. I want to go because, God willing, he will be allowed to leave today" [6].
Following his discharge, Anwar will continue physiotherapy under medical specialist supervision to aid his recovery [6].
