Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh indicated that the Melaka state election could take place within four months. He said they aim to find a suitable time within 120 days to hold the polls, avoiding the campaign period coinciding with Ramadan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri [1, 2, 3, 4].
The current Melaka State Legislative Assembly term is expected to expire in December 2026. However, Ab Rauf noted it would not be practical to schedule the election too close to the term's end due to the festive season's overlap [1, 2, 3, 4]. "We will try to identify a suitable time within these 120 days (to hold the Melaka state polls)," he said [1].
When asked about whether Melaka Umno would contest alone, following Johor Umno's decision to go solo, Ab Rauf said no decision has been made yet. "We have not considered that yet, whether to go solo or work together with other parties. We will wait for the right time to make an announcement," he added [2].
Ab Rauf also highlighted that groundwork has been underway since last year. Based on public reception, he stated that the Barisan Nasional-led state government remains the preferred choice among voters. "Insya-Allah, based on public reception, the state government (led by BN) is seen as the preferred choice," he said [3].
Over 190 individuals from the Masjid Tanah parliamentary constituency submitted membership forms to join Umno during an event where Ab Rauf spoke, signaling party growth ahead of the election [1, 2, 3, 4].
In the previous 2021 Melaka state election, Barisan Nasional won 21 out of 28 seats, giving the coalition a strong majority in the state legislative assembly [1, 2, 3, 4].
The election is expected to be scheduled before the end of the current assembly term in December 2026, likely within the next 120 days as indicated by Ab Rauf's latest statements [1, 2, 3, 4].
