Toh Puan Na’imah Abdul Khalid, widow of former finance minister Tun Daim Zainuddin, and her two sons Muhammed Amir Zainuddin and Muhammed Amin Zainuddin are currently overseas, police confirmed yesterday[May 26] as an investigation into an alleged plot to overthrow the Malaysian government continues [1, 2].
Police have been unable to contact Na’imah and her sons since the probe began earlier this year. Warrants of arrest were issued last month against Amir and Amin after they failed to appear at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission headquarters for statements related to the case [1, 2].
The investigation under Section 124B of the Penal Code involves allegations that an influential figure and an international media organisation conspired to topple the government, according to the inspector-general of police’s announcement in February [3]. Authorities have recorded statements from 17 witnesses as part of their inquiries [1, 3, 2].
Police have referred the investigation papers to the Attorney General’s Chambers and are awaiting further instructions, Datuk M. Kumar said. "The investigation paper has been referred to the Attorney General’s Chambers and we are now awaiting further feedback and instructions," he stated [2].
Na’imah has denied any involvement in the alleged plot, describing the accusations as "absurd". She said the police report was lodged by a disgruntled former employee dismissed from her team [1, 3, 2].
The Kuala Lumpur Magistrate’s Court issued the arrest warrants against her sons in April after their no-shows at the MACC headquarters [1, 2].
The police investigation remains active as authorities await the Attorney General’s Chambers to decide on next steps in the case.
