Negeri Sembilan DAP announced it will keep more than half of its incumbent representatives as candidates for the state election following the dissolution of the State Legislative Assembly on June 5, 2026, by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun [1, 2, 3].
The party aims to defend the 11 seats it won in the previous 2023 state election while fielding several new candidates. Secretary-General Anthony Loke said the candidate list is in the final stages and will be announced within days. He stressed the importance of giving new candidates preparation time and that outgoing incumbents must support them to secure victory and maintain party strength. "The candidate list will be announced early to give them time to make preparations and familiarise themselves with the constituencies they will contest, particularly the new candidates. Any elected representative who is replaced must assist and support the new candidate to ensure victory and maintain the party's strength," Loke said [1].
Loke himself will contest the Chennah seat in the upcoming state vote [1, 2, 3].
The 2023 election saw Pakatan Harapan, which includes DAP, secure 17 seats while Barisan Nasional won 14 and Perikatan Nasional 5, with the coalition holding 31 of the 36 total seats in the Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly [1, 2, 3].
Negeri Sembilan is the second state to dissolve its assembly after Johor did so on June 1, 2026 [1, 2, 3]. Johor DAP has yet to submit its full candidate list for final approval [1, 3].
State law requires the election to be held within 60 days of dissolution, setting a deadline by early August for the voting to take place [1, 2, 3].
The announcement of the finalized Negeri Sembilan DAP candidate list is expected shortly, marking a key step as parties prepare for the contest ahead.
