Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun spoke at the Pakatan Harapan (PH) 2026 Convention in Johor Bahru on May 17, 2026, warning PH members against internal betrayal amid ongoing political turmoil in the state [1, 2, 3].

In recent months, the political crisis worsened after all 14 assemblymen from Umno and Barisan Nasional withdrew support for the Negeri Sembilan state government, causing four vacancies in the state executive council [1]. Despite the withdrawals and resulting instability, Aminuddin retained his position as Menteri Besar with the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan [1].

Aminuddin used a metaphor of a strong ship to describe the coalition’s internal divisions. "We in Negeri Sembilan have a large ship. The ship we built is magnificent, strong and able to withstand storms," he said. "We as captains saw them show loyalty while inside the ship, but suddenly they became uncomfortable, perhaps it became too hot, perhaps they wanted something new, so they drilled holes from inside," he added [2, 3].

He urged PH members to focus on grassroots mobilisation, discipline, and resolving issues related to traditional institutions internally without federal interference [1]. Aminuddin also stressed the need for unity within PH, warning that political partners can shift positions or abandon cooperation at any time [1, 3]. At the convention, he told PH members, "Please do not betray us," emphasizing the importance of solidarity as elections approach [2].

Before the crisis, party elections in Negeri Sembilan had been chaotic, but the state PH leadership now appears united and strong [2, 3]. The convention served as a platform to strengthen coalition unity and prepare for upcoming elections in Johor, Melaka, and Negeri Sembilan [1, 2, 3].

The political turmoil and walkouts happened ahead of these elections, raising the stakes for maintaining cohesion within PH [1]. Aminuddin remains focused on stabilizing the state government and preparing for the electoral contests.

The next key milestones will be the state-level elections where the unity urged by Aminuddin will be tested at the ballot box.
