The swearing-in ceremony for the new Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar is scheduled for August 2, 2026, at Balairung Seri, Istana Besar Seri Menanti. The oath will be administered before the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan, Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir [1, 2, 3, 4, 5].
Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) collectively won 25 out of 36 seats in the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election held on August 1, 2026, securing a two-thirds majority in the State Legislative Assembly [1, 2, 3, 5]. BN won 18 seats. PN’s seat count is unclear, reported as either 7 or 11 seats by different sources [1, 3, 4, 5]. Pakatan Harapan (PH) secured 11 seats [1, 3, 4].
BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi submitted three nominees for the Menteri Besar position to Tuanku Muhriz during an audience at Istana Hinggap on the evening of August 1. He said, "I have submitted three names to His Royal Highness the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan and placed them entirely under Tuanku's wisdom, consent and absolute prerogative to select one of them as the new Yang Amat Berhormat Menteri Besar of Negeri Sembilan" [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]. The three BN candidates put forward are Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias, the Negeri Sembilan UMNO chairman and Pertang assemblyman; Datuk Mohd Asna Amin, Lenggeng assemblyman and former state deputy speaker; and Datuk Saiful Yazan Sulaiman, Johol assemblyman and Kuala Pilah UMNO division secretary [2, 4, 5].
As of the morning of August 2, the identity of the chosen Menteri Besar had not been disclosed. The final decision rests with the Yang di-Pertuan Besar [2, 4, 5].
The Negeri Sembilan State Legislative Assembly was dissolved on June 5, 2026, following BN’s withdrawal of support for the previous Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun on April 27, 2026 [1, 3]. A total of 103 candidates contested the 36 state seats during the election [1, 3].
The swearing-in ceremony will take place between 10:15 and 11:00 a.m. on August 2 at Istana Besar Seri Menanti [1, 2, 3, 4, 5].
