Perikatan Nasional (PN) declared it will contest all 28 state seats in the upcoming Melaka state election. The coalition plans to finalize seat distribution through negotiations with its component parties to form the best strategy for victory [1, 2].
PN is strengthening its machinery at all levels ahead of the election, with Bersatu division chiefs instructed to submit prospective candidate names for review [1, 2]. Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said candidates will be selected based on "good character, a strong work ethic, experience, and close ties with the people" [2].
Discussions continue with other parties interested in cooperating with PN for the Melaka polls. Seat allocation will be decided jointly to maximize the coalition’s chances [1, 2].
Separately, Parti Rakyat India Malaysia (MIPP), a PN component since April 2024, will field candidates in 4 Johor state seats in the upcoming Johor state election, marking its electoral debut under PN [3]. S.P. Punithan noted, "Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Harapan should not be overly confident of securing a comfortable victory. PN is equally focused on capturing Johor," emphasizing PN’s ambition in the southern state [3].
PN will also contest all 56 Johor state seats, with MIPP allocated 4 seats there as well as 2 in Melaka and 3 in Negri Sembilan for future elections [3].
The Melaka Bersatu election machinery was launched in Klebang on May 30 or 31, when PN announced its full contest of the Melaka seats [1, 2]. PN’s leadership aims to secure strong community ties and proven track records from all candidates.
