Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) appointed vice-president Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari as co-election director alongside Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, replacing deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar. The decision followed a PKR political bureau meeting on May 25, 2026 [1, 2, 3, 4].
Amirudin Shari serves as the Menteri Besar of Selangor. Nurul Izzah Anwar, who assumed the co-election director role in June 2025 after winning the PKR deputy presidency, will now focus on strengthening PKR's party machinery and grassroots operations under a strategic realignment [1, 4].
Azman Abidin, political secretary to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, was named director of PKR's election war room. He will coordinate election strategies and field operations. Azman will be assisted by Ruji Ubi in managing the war room [1, 2, 3, 4].
Between April and May 2026, PKR gained 5,936 new members. The party is investing heavily in grassroots capabilities and preparing its machinery to be election-ready for upcoming polls [1, 2, 3, 4].
Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said, "The restructuring also builds on groundwork laid previously, including strengthening the election structure, improving coordination between state and division levels, and expanding the use of data, systems and technology in field operations through the introduction of the TERAS election system." She added, "PKR is now moving into its next phase with a firm commitment to close ranks, strengthen grassroots capabilities and ensure the entire party machinery operates as a focused, organised and election-ready team ahead of the next polls." [2]
Datuk Fuziah Salleh further explained that Nurul Izzah "will continue playing a strategic role by specifically focusing on developing the capacity of PKR’s election machinery and workflow" [4].
Earlier this month, former deputy president candidate Datuk Seri Mohd Rafizi Ramli left PKR to lead the Malaysians United Party (Bersama), marking a notable shift in the political landscape [4].
PKR has introduced the TERAS election system to broaden the use of data and technology in field operations, aiming to modernize its campaign efforts [2, 3].
The new appointments and organizational changes set the party’s framework for the forthcoming general election.
