PKR secretary general Datuk Dr Fuziah Salleh said PKR will contest at least 20 seats in the Johor state election and 16 seats in the Negeri Sembilan state election scheduled for July 11 and August 1, respectively [1, 2, 3]. Pakatan Harapan (PH), of which PKR is a component party, will contest all 56 Johor and all 36 Negeri Sembilan state legislative assembly seats, with seat allocations finalized amicably among the coalition parties [1, 2, 3].
Fuziah highlighted expectations of higher voter turnout in Johor compared to the last state election held during the Covid-19 pandemic. She said, "Voters working in Singapore did not travel to vote in 2022 due to health concerns, and I am confident of a higher voter turnout this time which will favour PH" [2].
New political parties Parti Bersama Malaysia and Parti Wawasan Negara will also contest seats in both Johor and Negeri Sembilan [2, 3]. Fuziah emphasized that political competition should focus on policies and proposals beneficial to the people rather than criticism of other parties [1, 2, 3].
Pejuang party president Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir said Pejuang plans to contest only a limited number of seats in Johor and Negeri Sembilan. Speaking at a Ketereh branch event on June 14, he explained, "We are very interested in fielding candidates in Johor and Negri Sembilan. At the same time, we are measuring ourselves according to our own capabilities, so we will not contest many seats". He added, "We want to ensure the Malay vote in particular is not divided," with ongoing talks to avoid clashes with other parties [4].
The Johor state election will be held on July 11, 2026, followed by the Negeri Sembilan state election on August 1, 2026 [1].
