Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim launched SParK 2026, a platform by PUNB targeting RM2.25 billion in financing approvals from 2026 to 2030 to boost Bumiputera entrepreneurs. [1] Anwar condemned the longstanding practice of approving entrepreneur loans based on letters of support or political connections instead of capability and transparency. "If you only use letters of support, that is a move to cover up agencies. We have inherited this for decades," he said, adding loans should be given on merit, not on "yellow, green, blue letters." [2]
At the launch, Anwar called on successful entrepreneurs to mentor new Bumiputera companies. "The approach should not be top down because the people who know what working capital is, the prices of goods, market conditions... are people in the field who should know. We are only motivators, not necessarily teachers," he said. [1]
He criticized misuse of government financing where some entrepreneurs spent funds on lavish offices, vehicles, or personal lifestyle rather than growing their business. [2, 3] Anwar acknowledged the risks of entrepreneurship and said genuine business failures should not be equated with abuse of public funds. [3] He noted that past abuses of financing channels contributed to the failure of many businesses and weakened Bumiputera development institutions. [4, 3]
Anwar also addressed political opposition, claiming several parties have united to bring him down because of his firm anti-corruption stance. "That is why, as you can see now, all these parties are joining forces to bring me down. Why? Because they know we are strict. They know we safeguard everything," he said. [5]
He stressed his administration will not tolerate corruption or abuse of power. "If you are a minister and you abuse your power, we will kick you out," Anwar pledged. [6] He further said no leader should use their position to acquire land, projects, or shares. "I have come to Johor dozens of times. Did I take any land? No. Did I take any projects? No. Did I take any shares? No," he told voters in Johor, urging them to give Pakatan Harapan a mandate for reform and clean governance. [5]
Anwar criticized leaders exploiting racial supremacy rhetoric for personal gain, saying the louder they proclaim Malay supremacy, the wealthier they become while squandering wealth meant for the poor. [7] He called for leadership that fairly engages all communities to preserve Malaysia’s unity. [7]
In related issues, Penang leaders called for a fairer share of federal funding after Anwar acknowledged the state is a top tax contributor but receives comparatively less federal allocation. Penang contributed RM10.7 billion annually between 2023 and 2025 but received RM7.9 billion in federal allocations during the same period. [8]
The R30 Strategic Framework unveiled alongside SParK aims to accelerate Bumiputera company growth, commercial scaling, job creation, and strengthen the national supply chain. [1]
The prime minister pledged gradual improvements to address weaknesses in his administration while maintaining a strict stance against corruption and abuse of power. [6]
