Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will officially launch the LRT3 Shah Alam line on June 28, 2026. Operations will begin the following day on June 29, serving the western corridor of Klang Valley [1, 2, 3, 4, 5].

Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced the launch and start dates after opening the new Road Transport Department (JPJ) Bandar Tasik Selatan branch today, June 22, 2026 [1, 2, 3, 5]. Loke said, "The launching (LRT3) will be on Sunday and the operations will begin the following day (June 29)" [1].

The LRT3 project extends 37.8 kilometres from Bandar Utama in Petaling Jaya to Johan Setia in Klang, passing through Shah Alam and other key areas. It features 20 stations along the route [1, 2, 3, 4, 5].

The line will serve heavily populated and growing areas expected to benefit about 2 million people in the western Klang Valley corridor [1, 4, 5]. It will also connect with existing rail lines including the Kelana Jaya Line, Kajang Line, and KTM services to improve regional connectivity [3].

Originally slated to launch by the end of 2025, the opening was delayed due to system stability and software issues found during testing and commissioning [4, 5].

Today’s opening of the new JPJ Bandar Tasik Selatan branch replaces the Bandar Sri Permaisuri office. Located strategically at Terminal Bersepadu Selatan (TBS), the branch offers modern facilities with extended hours from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, including weekends [1, 2, 6, 5].

The branch can serve up to 1,700 customers per day, compared with 1,300 previously at Bandar Sri Permaisuri. It introduces digital features such as self-service kiosks and the JPJeQ app to speed up transactions and increase service efficiency [1, 2, 6, 5]. Transport Minister Loke said, "This is a new approach for us in opening JPJ branches in areas with high public traffic to make things easier for customers and improve accessibility" [6]. He added, "The operating hours here are also expected to help reduce traffic at other branch offices, while increased capacity can speed up transactions, improve service delivery quality and handle up to 1,700 customers per day" [1].

Construction of the LRT3 line began in 2016. The official ceremony on June 28 will mark the formal launch by PM Anwar, with operations starting the next day on June 29 [1, 2, 3, 4, 5].
