Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on September 3 reaffirmed that the Indian community will not be sidelined under the MADANI government’s national development agenda. He promised expanded efforts to improve the community’s standard of living through education, entrepreneurship, microfinancing, welfare, and cash assistance programs [1, 2, 3].

Anwar highlighted key initiatives including widening access to financing for entrepreneurs, strengthening the Malaysian Indian Community Transformation Unit (MITRA), enhancing entrepreneurship training and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and creating more opportunities for youth development via mentor-mentee programs. "I emphasise that the Indian community will never be marginalised," he said [3].

The Prime Minister held extensive engagement sessions with Indian community leaders to review progress and listen to unresolved issues such as poverty, citizenship status, and access to assistance. The September 3 meeting also involved nine chambers of commerce and 14 non-governmental organizations, discussing education, economic opportunities, welfare, socioeconomic development, and inputs for the 2027 national budget [4, 5, 6].

Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan said the government is committed to directly hearing community views in continuous engagement efforts. "Every view, concern and suggestion was heard directly by the prime minister," he said. "What was raised will be given appropriate attention and follow-up so that these discussions yield tangible benefits for the community" [5].

Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil and MITRA Director-General N. Raveendran Nair also attended the sessions alongside the Prime Minister. Anwar urged relevant ministries and agencies to improve coordination and streamline service delivery to ensure that policies and funding reach the targeted communities effectively [1, 2, 4].

The government’s next concrete step will be incorporating community recommendations into Budget 2027 preparations, based on the inputs discussed at the September 3 meetings [6]. Prime Minister Anwar reiterated his commitment to the Indian community again on September 4 via social media [3].
