The Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, delivered a royal address today at the opening of the fourth term of the Perlis State Legislative Assembly sitting at Kompleks Seri Putra, urging the government to adopt innovative economic strategies based on local potential to overcome increasingly complex challenges [1, 2, 3].
He emphasized the need to strengthen high-value sectors, attract strategic investments, and leverage the state's geographical advantages and existing resources. Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin called for approaches rooted in proven best practices both domestically and internationally, but adapted specifically to Perlis's context [1, 2, 3].
"Focus should be given to high-impact initiatives capable of generating long-term returns, rather than short-term programmes that offer limited value to the state's economy," he said, underscoring the importance of sustained economic benefits rather than fleeting gains [2].
The Raja also stressed the need to generate state revenue by exploring new, sustainable, and resilient income sources. He called for all state expenditure to be conducted prudently, transparently, and with integrity to maximize returns for the people through development projects [1, 2, 3].
Highlighting a broader measure of success, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin said, "True progress is not measured solely by figures, but by the level of well-being experienced by all segments of society. Every policy and initiative must therefore be carefully designed to improve the people's quality of life in a comprehensive, inclusive and sustainable manner" [2].
The Raja expressed hope that the Perlis state government will maintain good relations with the federal government to ensure continued welfare and development for the state [1, 2, 3].
The Raja Perempuan of Perlis, Tuanku Tengku Fauziah Tengku Abdul Rashid; the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail; and the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil, were present during the event [1, 2, 3].
