Mohd Syafeeq Mohd Shukri, 37, son of former Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli, was acquitted by the Sessions Court in Kangar on May 19, 2026, of submitting a false claim amounting to RM19,505.10 [1, 2]. The charge related to an alleged false claim tied to a government order for refreshments served to the Raja of Perlis at Tuanku Fauziah Hospital dated February 14, 2024 [1, 2].

Judge Datuk Nu'aman Mahmud Zuhudi ruled that the prosecution failed to prove a prima facie case after examining witness testimonies. He said, "The accused is discharged and acquitted without being called to enter his defence, and the bail money is to be returned" [1, 2].

The defense counsel, Mohd Fadhly Yaacob, described the acquittal as the end of a two-year legal struggle. He said, "This acquittal also clears the family’s name, as well as that of the former Perlis menteri besar, which had previously been affected" [2].

Following the acquittal, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) filed a notice of appeal at the High Court on May 20, 2026. MACC Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Fariz Abdul Hamid said the prosecution awaits the grounds of judgment from the Sessions Court before filing the full appeal petition [1].

The court ordered that the bail money posted by Mohd Syafeeq be returned [2]. The next procedural step is the filing of the appeal petition once the prosecution has reviewed the full grounds of the Sessions Court ruling.
