ST Telemedia Global Data Centres (STT GDC) announced it secured green financing up to US$1.37 billion to support the development of its flagship data centre campus in Johor, Malaysia. The financing was provided by a Malaysian banking syndicate including United Overseas Bank (Malaysia), OCBC Bank Malaysia, Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia, and CIMB Bank [1, 2, 3].
The green loan facility backs the first phase of the data centre located at Nusa Cemerlang Industrial Park, Iskandar Puteri, Johor. The campus is designed to deliver an IT load capacity of up to 166 megawatts, aiming to meet growing demand for scalable digital infrastructure supporting cloud computing, artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and next-generation workloads [1, 2, 3].
Nelson Lim, STT GDC Group Chief Financial Officer, said the deal "demonstrates the confidence that its banking partners have in both the project and the long-term outlook for the digital infrastructure sector." Lim added, "As demand for cloud, artificial intelligence (AI) and other digital workloads grows, disciplined, long-term capital will be critical to building infrastructure that is resilient, sustainable and able to support our customers' requirements" [2].
Lim also described the financing as "an important milestone in the company's continued investment in Malaysia" and said the facility "reinforced STT GDC's approach to incorporating sustainability into the financing, design, construction and operation of its data centres" [3].
The STT Johor campus aligns with objectives of the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ) to promote cross-border economic cooperation and strengthen Johor's position as a high-value investment destination [1, 2, 3].
Established in 2014 as part of ST Telemedia and backed by Temasek Holdings, Singapore's sovereign wealth fund, STT GDC continues to expand its presence in Malaysia with this project [2, 3]. The green financing deal highlights strong support from the banking partners in the digital infrastructure sector and STT GDC’s long-term commitment to Malaysia [1, 2, 3].
The financing announcement was made on August 13, 2026, marking a key step in the development of the Johor data centre campus [1, 2, 3].
