Umno confirmed it will continue supporting the Unity Government formed after the 15th General Election (GE15) until the next general election, in line with the decree of Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia. The decision was made at the Umno Supreme Council meeting on June 9, 2026, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister and Umno President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at Menara Dato’ Onn [1, 2].

The party emphasized that the federal-level unity government agreement does not apply to state governments. Johor’s state government, which preceded the federal unity government, excludes Pakatan Harapan parties. Umno and Barisan Nasional defending the Johor state mandate is described as a legitimate democratic practice returning power to the people, not a betrayal of the federal government [1, 2].

Umno also said it remains open to cooperating with any parties for political stability and the well-being of the Malaysian people, provided such cooperation is grounded in sincerity and trust [1, 2].

Since the opening of online membership registration on April 20, 2026, Umno has gained 21,858 new and returning members nationwide, including former leaders and members from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia. The party secretary general, Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki, described Umno as a "Rumah Bangsa"—a home of the nation—with a long history shaping the country’s religion, race, and national identity [3].

The surge in membership was reported on June 10, reflecting rapid growth within less than two months since the registration began on April 20 [3].
