A three-year-old boy, Che Ku Muhammad Khairul Amir Che Ku Mohd Khairul Azlan, was injured after his left foot was run over by a four-wheel-drive pickup towing a Fire and Rescue Department boat during the 2026 National Day parade in Kuala Terengganu on August 31 [1, 2, 3, 4]. The incident occurred at about 9:45 a.m. in front of Wisma Persekutuan during the state-level celebrations [1, 2, 3, 4].

The boy’s 7-year-old sister, Che Ku Nur Amirah, ran ahead to take photographs before he followed [1, 2, 3, 4]. Firefighters accompanying the parade tried to escort the boy to safety as the pickup began moving slowly, but he suddenly fell face-first onto the road, causing his foot to end up under the vehicle’s tyre [1, 2, 3, 4].

Paramedics transported the boy by ambulance to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital at about 10:15 a.m. for treatment and observation [1, 2, 3, 4]. An X-ray showed no broken bones or internal injuries, though he remains under paediatric monitoring [1, 2, 3, 4].

The boy’s mother, Puteri Anis Athirah Wan Rosli, 36, from Kampung Cendering, Kuala Terengganu, said she does not blame the firefighters or security forces involved. "I do not blame any of the firefighters. They were managing the safety and movement of the assets. I know it was an accident and happened because my son was excited," she told reporters [2]. She also described the accident as a result of her son’s eagerness to see the security forces’ equipment up close [4].

Kuala Terengganu district police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor confirmed the incident and said the exact cause remains under investigation [2, 3]. The vehicle involved was a four-wheel-drive pickup towing a fireboat from the Fire and Rescue Department [1, 4].
