Mattel unveiled a Barbie Signature Series doll honoring late singer Whitney Houston on August 8 during the 5th annual Whitney Houston Legacy of Love gala in Atlanta, a charity event supporting the Whitney Houston Foundation for young people [1]. The doll captures Houston’s iconic look from her "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)" music video, featuring a pink bodycon midi dress, colorful earrings, white and blue heels, and her signature 1980s fringe and long curly hair [2, 1, 3].

The 12-inch doll includes a replica microphone and mic stand, reflecting details from Houston’s performances [1]. It retails for $60 and is available at Target stores, and online at Amazon, Walmart, Target, and Mattel Creations [1].

The doll was created in close collaboration with Pat Houston, president of the Whitney Houston Legacy Foundation and executor of Houston’s estate, who shaped the design to celebrate Houston’s iconic style and influence [1]. Pat Houston said, “Today, we celebrate more than the release of a doll, we celebrate the enduring legacy of an icon.” [1]

Whitney Houston was a top-selling artist with more than 220 million albums, singles, and videos sold worldwide. She remains the only artist to have seven consecutive number-one singles on the charts and passed away in 2012 at age 48 [2, 1, 3]. The Barbie doll honors Houston’s joyful spirit and timeless music, continuing her global influence.

Nathan Baynard, Mattel’s vice president and head of Barbie, said, "Whitney Houston’s music has been the soundtrack to countless moments for fans around the world. Barbie is proud to honour her extraordinary legacy with the latest addition to the Barbie Signature Series. This doll celebrates her unmistakable style, joy, and spirit.” [2]

The Barbie Signature Series also pays tribute to other music legends including David Bowie, Diana Ross, Miley Cyrus, Kylie Minogue, Stevie Nicks, Gloria Estefan, Tina Turner, Elvis Presley, Elton John, and Juan Gabriel [2, 1, 3]. The Whitney Houston doll is now available for purchase.
