Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, visited Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob at the National Heart Institute (IJN) on August 8, 2026 [1, 2, 3, 4].
Fadillah Yusof is recovering well from heart bypass surgery performed at IJN on August 3, 2026, but he still requires sufficient rest as advised by the medical team. Anwar said, "Alhamdulillah, his health is improving, but he still needs sufficient rest as advised by the medical team" [1, 2, 4].
Ismail Sabri was admitted to IJN on August 6, 2026, after experiencing health issues during a statement recording at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission headquarters [3, 4]. The following day, he underwent a successful leadless pacemaker implantation to treat an abnormal heart rhythm and remains under close monitoring at IJN [3, 4]. Anwar noted, "On the basis of friendship, we also visited former Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, who is also receiving treatment at IJN and still requires further monitoring" [4].
Both Anwar and Wan Azizah expressed hopes for a swift recovery. Anwar said, "Azizah and I pray that both of them will be granted a speedy recovery, that their treatment will be eased in every way, and that they will continue to be blessed with good health and strength to serve the people and the country, insya-Allah" [2, 3].
The visits took place as the two prominent political figures receive continued care at IJN. Fadillah will remain in recovery with medical guidance, while Ismail Sabri's condition will be closely observed following his recent procedure.
