The investigation paper (IP) into the Durian Tunggal shooting case involving three suspected robbers shot dead by police in November 2025 was returned by the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) for the fourth time, with additional instructions to re-record statements from several witnesses [1, 2].
The shooting occurred on November 24, 2025, at around 4 a.m. at an oil palm plantation in Durian Tunggal, Melaka. Police officers shot three men aged between 24 and 29 during an operation after the suspects allegedly attacked police and were intercepted while supposedly heading to commit robbery. One police corporal was seriously injured in the left arm after an assailant swung a parang at him [1, 2].
Family members and lawyers of the deceased released a recorded call on December 2, 2025, that raised doubts about the police's version, suggesting the men were compliant once stopped [1]. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim directed police to conduct a transparent and thorough investigation following the shooting [1].
Police have recorded statements from 63 witnesses related to the case. Datuk M. Kumar said, "The IP has come back with additional instructions for police to fulfil, among others is to record several more statements from witnesses." He added, "All AGC directives have been acted upon, and the latest investigation paper was submitted yesterday for further direction and advice. We have recorded statements from 63 witnesses to complete it" [1, 2].
On April 22, 2026, the AGC stated it was reviewing the IP to determine if further instructions were needed. The police had briefed the AGC on the investigation progress earlier on April 17 [1]. DAP chairman Gobind Singh Deo urged the AGC for an immediate and transparent update, noting five months had passed since the incident without definitive action [1].
The investigation paper was resubmitted to the AGC on May 25, 2026, after fulfilling previous directives [1, 2].
