A 31-year-old Malaysian man was found unconscious in a hotel room on Jalan Stesen Sentral, Kuala Lumpur, on May 24 and was pronounced dead at Kuala Lumpur Hospital, authorities said [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]. Police brought the man down from his room just after 3 a.m. after his friend noticed he lost consciousness [1, 2, 3, 4].
Police raided the victim’s hotel room at about 4 a.m. and arrested eight men linked to drugs, including two Malaysians, two Singaporeans, and one each from Hong Kong, Vietnam, Indonesia, and China [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]. They seized 1.5 grams of ketamine and three ecstasy pills weighing 0.7 grams with an estimated value of RM225 (around S$72.90) [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]. All eight suspects were remanded for three days and face investigation under Sections 12(2) and 15(1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6].
The victim’s post-mortem was conducted on the morning of May 24, but the official cause of death remains pending laboratory results. Assistant Commissioner Hoo Chang Hook said, “At this stage, the case has been classified as a sudden death report” [1].
Separately, from about 2:35 a.m. to 5 a.m. on May 24, police conducted four coordinated raids at upscale hotels in Kuala Lumpur [7, 8, 9, 10]. These raids targeted drug-fuelled parties linked to syndicates operating in the hotels. Officers arrested 51 men aged 21 to 52, including 23 locals and 28 foreigners [7, 8, 9, 10].
The police seized large amounts of drugs worth about RM103,070, including 1.15 kg liquid MDMA, 284 grams of MDMA powder, over 8 grams each of ecstasy pills and powder, and 11.61 grams of ketamine [7, 8, 9, 10]. Initial urine tests showed 36 of the arrested tested positive for drugs, while 15 tested negative. Bukit Aman NCID director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said one suspect had a prior drug-related criminal record [7, 8, 9, 10].
Datuk Hussein said, "Police will not compromise with any party involved in drug distribution. Possession, distribution or protection of drug activities is a serious offence under the law." [7]
Authorities believe the death of the 31-year-old man is linked to the drug-fuelled parties uncovered during these raids [7, 8, 9, 10]. Police are continuing investigations under multiple sections of the Dangerous Drugs Act, including Sections 39B, 39A(1), 12(2), and 15(1)(a) [7, 8, 9, 10].
