A 55-year-old woman was killed and her 21-year-old son injured after the Toyota Avanza they were travelling in skidded and crashed into a roadside divider at Km8 Jalan Batu Pengasah, Durian Burung, Padang Terap, Kedah around 7:35 a.m. on August 3, 2026 [1, 2]. The son lost control while driving from Kuala Nerang towards Durian Burung, causing the vehicle to veer onto the left shoulder before crashing into a steel guardrail. The mother was trapped in the front passenger seat and pronounced dead at the scene [1, 2]. "The driver is believed to have lost control of the vehicle," said Padang Terap police chief Superintendent Mohd Anuar Junoh [1]. Firefighters used rescue equipment to extricate the woman and cleared debris, completing the operation at 9:25 a.m. [1, 2]. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving [1, 2].
Later the same day, four people were killed and one injured when a tree fell on the Ford Raptor they were traveling in on Jalan Lama Kuala Lumpur heading to Janda Baik, Bentong around 12:30 p.m. [3, 4]. The victims included a 35-year-old male driver, a 36-year-old woman front passenger holding a five-year-old boy on her lap, and a 40-year-old man seated at the rear. All four died at the scene [3, 4]. Another five-year-old boy seated in the back was injured and taken to Bentong Hospital [3, 4]. The two children are believed to be twins [3]. The emergency call was received by the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM Pahang) at 1:05 p.m., with firefighters using special rescue equipment to extricate the victims [3, 4]. "The 35-year-old male driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Also killed were a 36-year-old woman and a five-year-old boy on her lap," said Assistant Director of JBPM Pahang Mohd Salahuddin Isa [4].
The two deadly accidents on August 3 killed five people and injured two others across Kedah and Bentong. Investigations are ongoing for the Kedah crash, while emergency response details continue to be reviewed for the Bentong incident.
