Former Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob was scheduled to be charged on August 7, 2026, at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act, related to his declaration of assets [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]. Ismail Sabri had been summoned multiple times to record statements with the MACC regarding his asset declaration [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6].

The charges follow raids linked to a corruption investigation during which the MACC seized RM170 million in cash in foreign currencies and 16 kilograms of pure gold bullion valued at RM7 million [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]. These raids came after the February 2025 arrests of four of Ismail Sabri’s senior officers [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6].

On the morning of August 7, Ismail Sabri was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) after experiencing arrhythmia while giving a statement to the MACC [4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11]. Defence lawyer Amer Hamzah Arshad said, "Yesterday, while he was at the MACC headquarters recording his statement, he experienced health issues which were immediately communicated to the relevant MACC officers. They are aware of the situation. From there, he had to be rushed to IJN" [7].

Sessions Court Judge Suzana Hussin allowed the defence’s application to postpone the charges and the recording of plea to August 27 due to Ismail Sabri’s health condition and scheduled medical procedures [7, 12]. The judge stated, "In light of the accused’s health condition, the court allows the charges and recording of plea to be postponed to Aug 27" [7]. The prosecution did not object to the postponement on humanitarian grounds [7, 12].

The prosecution team appeared in court on August 7 but planned to proceed to IJN to formally read the charges if permitted [4, 8, 9, 10, 11]. A source close to Ismail Sabri said, "The latest (of what I know) is the plea is most likely to be taken at IJN. We are not sure of the time. For now, the DPP has to make the application for the plea to be taken at IJN, but it is up to the judge to decide" [4]. Another source from the Attorney-General's Chambers added, "We will go to court first, but most probably to IJN later" [10].

The next court date for Ismail Sabri to be formally charged and for his plea to be recorded is set for August 27, 2026 [7, 12].
