Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced plans to increase the BUDI95 subsidised petrol quota for p-hailing riders from the current 200 litres to 250 litres at a meet-the-people event in Johor Baru on May 17, 2026 [1, 2, 3].
The proposal responds to complaints from food delivery riders who said the existing quota is insufficient. Anwar said he would remind Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil to study the proposal and find a way to increase the quota by at least 50 litres. "At the meeting on Tuesday, I will bring this up for discussion. Because p-hailing riders currently get 200 litres, the same as us for RON95. So I said I will remind Fahmi to look into it, and find a way to increase it by at least 50 litres to 250 litres," Anwar said [1, 2, 3].
The current quota of 200 litres for RON95 petrol is the same as given to the general public. The increase would give p-hailing riders a higher subsidised petrol allowance to help with rising operational costs [1, 2, 3].
The National Economic Action Council (MTEN) will formally discuss the proposal during a meeting scheduled for May 19, 2026 [1, 2, 3]. Anwar's announcement reflects government consideration of gig workers’ concerns amid ongoing economic challenges.
Separately, Anwar announced a RM1 million allocation for urgent repair works at the PPR Taman Desa Mutiara residential area in Johor Baru following complaints from residents about the condition of their housing [1, 2].
The government maintains the RON95 petrol price at RM1.99 per litre. Officials credit political stability and cooperation between federal and state governments for keeping prices among the lowest globally [2, 3].
The MTEN meeting on May 19 will determine if the petrol quota for p-hailing riders will officially be raised to 250 litres under the BUDI95 subsidy.
