The Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) announced it will close the airspace within the Kuala Lumpur Terminal Control Area on August 26 to 29 and August 31. The closures will support National Day flypast rehearsals and the event itself [1, 2, 3].
From August 26 to 28, the airspace will be closed daily from 11 a.m. to noon for flypast rehearsals. On August 29, a full rehearsal will take place from 8:45 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. The actual National Day flypast is scheduled for August 31, also between 8:45 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. [1, 2, 3].
Scheduled airplane takeoffs and landings at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) will be temporarily suspended during these closure periods. CAAM advised passengers traveling through KLIA during these dates to check flight statuses, as some flights may be rescheduled or affected [1, 2, 3].
CAAM warned that drone or Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) operations are strictly prohibited within the affected area during rehearsals and the flypast. "Unauthorised drone operations pose a serious safety risk, particularly to aircraft operating at lower altitudes and may result in enforcement action under the Civil Aviation Regulations 2016," CAAM said [2].
The temporary restrictions aim to ensure safe and orderly conduct of the rehearsals and flypast and to protect Malaysia’s airspace safety, security, and efficiency [1, 2, 3].
