Malaysian police confirmed the viral video circulating on social media alleging a Myanmar national possessed a Malaysian identity card (MyKad) does not show any identification document or MyKad in the footage [1, 2].

The video was originally posted on Facebook by the account "Na’am Ahmad" and later reposted by other parties [1, 2]. Police received a report on June 5, 2026, at about 8:45 a.m. regarding false information linked to identity cards issued to an alleged Myanmar citizen [1, 2].

On June 7, police publicly stated they had referred the claims to the National Registration Department (NRD) for verification and further investigation into the authenticity of the allegations [2]. ACP Aidi Sham Mohamed noted, "Further checks revealed that there were no identity documents or MyKad shown in the video to support the claim" [2].

The NRD confirmed it lodged a police report and stressed that citizenship status could not be verified solely based on social media videos [1]. It has sought assistance from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to trace the original source of the video and identify those responsible for spreading the content [1].

Police and NRD officials urged the public not to share unverified or false information about the incident, warning it may cause confusion and harm reputations [1, 2]. ACP Aidi Sham Mohamed advised, "The public should also obtain information from official sources and report any relevant information to the police to assist with investigations" [2].
