A 63-year-old Malaysian woman was arrested on May 17 in Nigeria for allegedly attempting to smuggle 31 kilograms of Canadian Loud cannabis through Lagos Murtala Muhammed International Airport [1, 2, 3, 4]. She arrived on a flight from Thailand via Dubai carrying two large suitcases containing the drugs [1, 2, 3, 4].
Authorities reported that the woman traveled from Malaysia to Thailand, where she stayed roughly two weeks before departing for Nigeria, where she was detained [2, 3, 4].
Malaysian police, specifically the Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID), have launched investigations into the case and are cooperating with Nigerian and Thai officials [1, 2, 3, 4]. The woman told investigators that her daughter sponsored the trip and gave her the drugs package to deliver to Nigeria [2, 3, 4].
Police are actively trying to locate and question the woman’s daughter amid an ongoing probe [1, 2, 3, 4]. Bukit Aman NCID director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said: "Efforts to locate the woman’s daughter are still underway, and the allegation that she was set up by her daughter is also being investigated" [4].
On June 3, Malaysian police publicly confirmed their investigation and their search for the daughter [2, 3]. The investigation remains ongoing as of June 5, with authorities examining the alleged involvement of the daughter [4].
