A. Vinodvarma, 36, pleaded not guilty in the Magistrates' Court on May 28, 2026, to criminal intimidation against 24-year-old hair salon assistant Ashha Begum at Taman Bamboo, Sentul, Kuala Lumpur [1, 2].
The incident occurred on May 22 at 6:20pm when Vinodvarma allegedly threatened to kill Begum following a dispute over money spent on a gift during an overseas trip [1, 2]. The charge was framed under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of two years in prison, a fine, or both [1, 2].
Deputy public prosecutor Amritpreet Kaur Randhawa did not offer bail, as the offence is non-bailable under the law [1, 2]. Vinodvarma’s lawyer Erickka Farrise Amir argued bail should be granted, noting her client is single, cares for elderly parents, and is not a flight risk. She added Vinodvarma cannot work currently due to a broken left arm [1, 2].
"The incident arose from a misunderstanding and did not result in any injuries or property damage. My client cooperated with the police and is not a flight risk. He is a bachelor and cares for his ailing mother and disabled father. He also does not have a steady income and is currently unable to work after recently suffering a broken left arm in an accident," Amir said [1]. She also requested bail on the grounds of his family responsibilities and inability to work [2].
The court granted bail of RM4,000 with two sureties. Conditions include monthly reporting to the police and no interference with the victim or witnesses [1, 2].
