Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh announced that the state legislative assembly is likely to be dissolved by the end of September 2026, specifically within two Fridays from September 7 [1, 2, 3, 4]. He updated the timeline recently, reducing the countdown from "four more Fridays" to just "two more Fridays," indicating the dissolution is imminent. "Not long now (before the dissolution). I said the other day there were four more Fridays, but now there are only two Fridays left," Ab Rauf said [2].
On September 6, Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi urged Ab Rauf to speed up the dissolution announcement. Zahid said delaying it would deny the people, especially young voters, the chance to help shape Melaka's future through the state election [1, 2, 3, 4]. "The announcement should not be delayed for too long, as the people, particularly young voters, should be given the opportunity to determine the direction and future of the state," he said [1].
Ab Rauf has been actively engaging with various party coalitions to form alliances for the upcoming election. He emphasized that his decisions on partnerships would be based on political strategy rather than personal friendship. "For the sake of our struggle, I will not make decisions based on friendship. Instead, I will make decisions based on political strategy to defend and rebuild our party, which has been trampled on and insulted in the past," he said [2].
He also reiterated his commitment to serving the people of Melaka by meeting them directly and prioritizing their needs. "We will rise together. We were given the mandate to serve the people, and I manage the people well. I could easily sit back in luxury, sleep, and wake up at noon without meeting the people. But no, for the sake of the people, I will face the heat and rain to fight for everything for Melaka," he added [2].
At a community event in Sungai Udang on September 7, Ab Rauf joked about voter choice, saying, "When do you want this, tomorrow? Whatever, whenever, no matter when. Don’t choose red, we choose blue," signaling support for his political coalition [4].
The next key event will be the formal dissolution of the Melaka state legislative assembly, expected within two Fridays from September 7, paving the way for a state election.
